Bill Monroe was the creator of Bluegrass music, and the fiddle is an essential part. Although some people often think of the banjo, when Monroe was asked what instrument defined his music, with no doubt, he responded: the fiddle.
The roots are found in Arthur Smith, Tommy Magness and Posey Rorer, among others, but it is in 1945 with Bill Monroe, Lester Flatt, Earl Scrugss and Chubby Wise on the fiddle, that the High Lonesome Sound begins.
