Carolina Duran

The violin is a versatile, portable and lightweight instrument, and therefore many traditions of violin, based on oral transmission, have coexisted for centuries with different traditions, cultures and social stratum.


In our environment, very few violinists of oral tradition, with local styles and repertoires, have come down to us. We can mention two of the most representative and studied among  the old violinists in the Pyrenees: Peret White and Jiminy Farre. In addition, there are other traditions: in the tales of southern Valencia and neighboring communities, in the formation of fandango in the Balearic Islands, and throughout our country, where we find the violin as an alternative tool to many folk musicians, primarily wind.
